📖 General Reminders & Sunnahs of Dhul Hijjah

To maximize our rewards during these blessed days, please keep the following important rulings and recommendations in mind:

  • 🕌 Eid Prayer Obligation: The Eid prayer is Wajib (obligatory) for those upon whom the Friday (Jumu’ah) prayer is obligatory (generally adult, sane, resident males). However, the entire community—including women, children, and those exempt—is highly encouraged to attend to partake in the blessings and joy of the day.
  • 🌍 Coordinating Qurbani Overseas: For our community members coordinating Qurbani in Pakistan, please be mindful of the time zone difference. Ensure you instruct your representatives to execute your sacrifice AFTER you have completed your Eid prayer here in Massachusetts.
  • ✂️ Refraining from Hair & Nail Cutting: If you are offering a sacrifice, remember to refrain from cutting your hair, beard, or nails starting from the 1st of Dhul Hijjah until your Qurbani has been successfully completed.
  • 🌅 Fasting the Day of Arafah: Fasting on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah (this Tuesday, May 26th) is highly recommended for those not performing Hajj, as it serves as an expiation for the sins of the preceding and coming year.
  • 🗣️ Takbeerat al-Tashreeq: It becomes obligatory (Wajib) for every adult Muslim to recite the Takbeerat al-Tashreeq immediately following every Fard (obligatory) prayer.
    • When: Starting from the Fajr prayer on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah (Tuesday, May 26th) until the Asr prayer on the 13th of Dhul Hijjah (Saturday, May 30th).
    • What to recite: Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, Lā ilāha illallāh, Wallāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, wa lillāhil-ḥamd. (Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, there is no god but Allah. And Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest and to Allah belongs all praise.
