Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a sacred period of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. From dawn until sunset, adult Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs as an act of worship and spiritual discipline, seeking greater mindfulness of God, compassion for those in need, and personal growth in character and faith. The month commemorates the first revelation of the Qur’an to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, making it a time especially devoted to recitation of scripture, charity, forgiveness, and strengthening family and community bonds, culminating in the celebration of Eid al-Fitr at its conclusion.
